Oblivion (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy + UltraViolet)

(BLU RAY UPDATE) 4 1/2 stars for a visually arresting sci-fi beauty
There may be spoilers.

Some critics have panned this new film from director and co-writer Joseph Kosinski, in this his second film ("TRON: Legacy"), as being highly derivative. But let's face it, how many films are so fresh and new that they delve into uncharted territory? In any case, don't care. Whether it's a drama, a comedy, a horror movie or even a romantic comedy, it's how well it is delivered that counts. And this film delivers.

Like "TRON" the film is visually arresting. Seen on a big screen, the sets are huge but sparse, drawing the audience in. Set in a war-ravaged Earth of 2077 devoid of humans, all of whom have resettled on a moon of Saturn, only Jack (terrific Tom Cruise) and Victoria (Andrea Riseborough) remain. They are partners (both romantic and professionally) whose mission is to watch over the drones that patrol the area for a smattering of "Scavs" who were the defeated invaders. While Earth won the war, they lost the planet which...
Entertaining Sci-fi Flick!
Oblivion wasn't a dynamic bang `em up, annihilate the universe sci-fi. It was steady, uncomplicated and extremely enjoyable. Cruise's performance is good (not a big fan of his, but he does have that charisma that is caught on film and makes it work extremely well). The premise was really good; the plot was a twist I did not even anticipate, but it was a really nice surprise for a sci-fi flick. The visuals and special effects are outstanding! Overall, it was an extremely enjoyable and entertaining Saturday night movie. For you sci-fi fans who need a fix, give this a look-see! Highly Recommend!
Oblivion in IMAX
When I first saw a trailer for Oblivion, I felt like it was custom made for me. Then, last night, while watching it in IMAX,they started playing a Led Zeppelin song in the movie, I knew it was made for me. Oblivion was a mix of the greatest Sci-Fi already made and yet it was still unique in its own way. Other reviewers have said that the writing is better in the first half and that the movie becomes predictable or not as strong in the second half. I completely disagree. I felt like the script, while borrowing bits from other Sci-Fi, remained engaging and well-done through out the whole movie. If you see this movie in IMAX, in addition to being blown away by the incredible surround sound, you will actually see more of the picture than in a traditional theater. They opened it up for most of the movie. There were a few parts (only one I noticed was around the beginning) where it was the more narrow widescreen picture. For the rest of the time it filled up the huge IMAX screen. The...

Skyfall (Blu-ray/ DVD + Digital Copy)

Brilliant...Can't Recommend This Movie Enough
Being the year of the 50th anniversary of the beloved super spy, the 23rd Bond installment had a lot to live up to. While Casino Royale was a worthy and thrilling reboot to the franchise, Quantum of Solace fell flat with critics and fans. To make matters more interesting, MGM has had financial woes over the last number of years and needed a hit to reinvigorate the studio. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Skyfall.

Not only does the movie qualify as one of the most action-packed and entertaining movies of the year, it ranks on my list as one of the best Bond flicks to date. As has come to be expected, Craig is terrific as the British spy, portraying the character with charm and intensity. The action is top notch and the story is superbly written. Among my favorite moments were the blistering opening sequences, the introduction of the film's villain, and the intense final act, which finds Bond cornered yet unafraid. The real treat, however, is Bardem's role as the sinister...
So good I've seen it twice already!!
I am a die hard Sean-Connery-as-James-Bond fan. I like most of Roger's and a couple of Pierce's. I was not happy when I first learned of Daniel Craig as the new Bond. Daniel who? Was my first reaction. Not another Lazenby, I thought...
I like Casino Royale, but it took me a couple of watches on DVD for it to grow on me. I didn't hate Quantum of Solace as much as others seem to, but then I saw Skyfall..... I love this movie so much that not one day has gone by when I haven't thought of it at least once. I saw it twice in one week, and I never do that when movies are in theaters. The writers of this film must be brought back for the next one, yes it has some minor similarities to The Dark Knight movies, but so what. I can not wait for the Blu Ray release. I hate to admit it, but this may just be my new favorite Bond movie. The only thing that would make it perfect for me would be if Connery were still young enough to play Bond. The opening sequence, the action, Javier as the...
The best Bond film in many years
Although I remain a loyal fan to the Bond of my youth (Roger Moore), Daniel Craig is, in my opinion, one of the very best of the rest. In Skyfall he demonstrated how he has matured into the character - and the writing and execution of virtually every other aspect of this film are superior to his first two outings. Some viewers are finding this Bond outing a bit slow moving. I didn't, although it is admittedly more restrained than many other films from the series. Nevertheless, I found it engaging from beginning to end. I thought certain parts of the film packed an emotional punch seldom felt in other Bond films.

It is interesting how the public's expectations for Bond have changed. When View to A Kill premiered critics blasted the level of violence and even Roger Moore said he thought at least one scene in that movie went too far. The current take on Bond is far more violent and the bad guys are often presented in a much darker light than the villains of old - even if...

Halloweentown / Halloweentown II: Kalabar's Revenge (Double Feature)

Halloweentown is the Greatest
My daughters and I just love the Halloween season and there's no better movie to watch than this one. We can watch it over and over and never get tired of it. We always say we'd love to live in Halloweentown year round.(Too bad it's not a real town...or is it?) We're so glad it finally came out on DVD so now we can watch it whenever we want and don't have to wait until the one time of year for The Disney Channel to show it. I can't say enough about this movie. If you love Halloween I know you will love this movie too. :)
GREAT HALLOWEEN MOVIES FOR THE FAMILY
I love a good family Halloween movie. Something that's not too scary for little ones, but still something absorbing enough for adults. There are actually three of these movies now as the third, "Halloweentown High" came out in 2004 and it's too bad that Disney didn't release all three together.

The basic premise is that there is an alternate world from our own where it is always Halloween called, of course, Halloweentown. Aggie Cromwell (the radiant Debbie Reynolds) is a powerful witch as is her daughter Gwen (Judith Hoag). Aggie wants to train Gwen's daughter Marnie (Kimberly Brown) to use her powers before she loses them when she turns 13. This results in a big argument between Aggy and Gwen. Aggy returns to Halloweentown but Marnie and her two siblings Dylan and Sophie secretly follow her. Once there they learn about a dark force threatening Halloween town and only the combined power of all the Cromwell women, including Mom Gwen can stop it.

In the...
LOVE THESE MOVIES!!!
I am sooo happy that these movies have finally been released on DVD! I have to admit, I love watching these with the kids! I love the costumes, backgrounds, music and really good child actors. The stories are great too! So much fun on a cool fall night! Buy this DVD, pop some corn and enjoy!

By the way, if your worried that they might be too scary, don't. My son watched these at 5 and was not afraid at all. There are villians, but they are done in a fun way.

Red 2

Our Favorite Foursome
Here they are again, our favorite former black-ops CIA agents, still Retired and Extremely Dangerous, who must reunite and track down a portable nuclear device, invented by a man who has been held for over 30 years in an institution for the criminally insane.

If you saw the original "Red" you know that after all the wild events, Frank and Sarah became a couple. Now we get to see what happens AFTER the "happily ever after...." (It's hilarious!)

We see:
* Bruce Willis ("Red") Frank is in a domestic frenzy, deliriously heaping his shopping cart at Costco with countless household items.
* John Malkovich ("Red") Marvin is horrified to see Frank in this condition. He will do anything...
* Mary-Louise Parker ("Red") Sarah has an edge over Frank and Marvin: people LIKE her, but she can only watch Frank's new-found domesticity with a mixture of dismay and affection.
* Helen Mirren ("Red") Victoria is in the middle of another "side job" when...
WHAT HAPPENS IN THE KREMLIN, STAYS IN THE KREMLIN
The film incorporates Wikileaks as the new problem child for Moses Frank (Bruce Willis) and company. An article claims he and Marvin (John Malkovich) were involved in a 1979 operation called "Night Shade." They have become wanted men.

In an expanded role Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) our meek lady from Kansas has become a thrill seeker and joins the group as they travel the world to find "Night Shade." In addition to Interpol and the Feds looking for our heroes, there is also a hitman (Byung-hun Lee) after them and Victoria (Helen Mirren) is also contracted to kill them...Malkovich proclaims "Friends don't take out a contract on friends." They are allied by KGB agent Katja (Catherine Zeta-Jones) to the displeasure of sweet innocent Sarah who says..."Can't we just kill her?"

The film is filled with Malkovich one liners which we enjoyed in the first movie. The expanded role of Sarah added to the feature. This is perhaps a notch below the first installment, but a...
Intense Suspense
"Red 2" is a superb action film that touches on the continuation of most of the characters from the first Red film. My husband and I both agreed that "Red 2" was even better than the first "Red." However, he was undecided at first about who was his favorite character. This was because Bruce Willis and Louise Parker elegantly played a couple very much in love and playing out their relationship among various heists. Lee Byung-hun gave a marvelous performance as a gifted assassin who deep down has a good sense of right and wrong. However, my husband admitted that he enjoyed Anthony Hopkins in the role as Dr. Edward Bailey the most. This was because Hopkins gave an admirable performance as a physicist who is called upon for his talents. My favorite performances were a tie between Helen Mirren as Victoria Winters and John Malkovich as Marvin Boggs. Mirren gives a splendid performance as a trained and true femme fatale who still has a heart for her fellow friends while accomplishing her...

Thomas & Friends: King of the Railway the Movie

Royal Event of the Year
My five year old was a train lover practically since birth and it was love at first sight with him and the Thomas & Friends trains. As he's gotten older and his attention span longer, he seems less interested in the regular show that's just around ten minutes long. He has been anxiously awaiting the release of the next Thomas movie that he could really get into so it was a happy day when we got King of the Railway in the mail!

After seeing so many Thomas DVD's I am almost as familiar with them as Reed and I noticed some differences in this movie right away. Everything seems to be a bit more modern and updated from the music to the plot to the newly introduced characters. Thomas has been around for a long time so it's refreshing to see it updated every once in a while.

I really enjoyed watching this movie with my kids! I always like movies with a good plot and life lessons for my kids. Thomas and his Friends are great examples of working together and solving...
Freshens up some more of the same...
My son has been a fan of Thomas and Friends movies for over two and a half years now (he turned 4 in August). Each one he has seen brings fun and good life lessons throughout. This one is really no different. The movie's description at the top should suffice for what this tale is about.

King of The Railway shares many similarities with the other Thomas and Friends movies (which doesn't hurt this most recent film). Thomas is always learning an important lesson, while those around him witness some of the issues brought up by said lesson. Gordon and Spencer debate about the "fastest engine on Sodor." Percy gets bashful and inquisitive on occasion. James worries about his paint. Thomas tries to keep a secret that conflicts with making others happy. Discovering/Seeing a 'new' engine that needs repairing. All of these themes should be familiar if you've seen any of the previous movies, but nevertheless, play well into this new adaptation. It's done in a way that doesn't...
I gave it a two because... (Some SPOILERS)
.
As an adult fan, I'm holding HIT Entertainment's feet to the fire for this one.
I gave it a two because their previous movies were PIXAR-like in production and QC; King of the Railways looked rushed.
Most of the imagry was great, but there were too many items that QC missed in post-production.
Their movies are supposed to be better than this; quality wise.
.
The good...
The BEST lesson ever to be learned in Thomas and Friends happens at 25m:30s
The texturing is amazing, except for the water
The story is fun and enjoyable
My twin boys light up when they hear Millie's voice; guess they will be suckers for ladies that speak with French accent.
.
The bad...
The mouths of some of the characters ocasionally extend past their eyes; normally they shouldn't go any wider than the pupals.
The Island of Sodor looks to be too close to the mainland; yes I know they are close, but not THAT close.

The Bible: The Epic Miniseries

Thread connects all parts
We just watched the first part of this series and also an interview w/ the producers( Mark Burnett and wife Roma Downey, who played in the series Touched by an angel), which included additional clips. This series is really well done. It is an overview of the whole bible in less than 10 hours, so they had to leave some stuff out, to make it interesting and develop some characters. We felt ourselves drawn into the story. it is very engaging and the producers have done a great job keeping the thread through it all. I love how they connect all the dots and not just put all the stories next to each other. It starts w/ Noah in the ark, but he tells the story of creation and connects Adams and eves sin w/ the flood. They added their own imaginations to it,for example how Sarah would respond to the sacrifice. I also saw a nice clip of Jesus during the interview and Jesus is portrait as a gentle man w/ authority. Roma gets to play the older mother of Jesus( What's exciting, bec I always loved...
The Bible
I was waiting for a network to "man up" and do a series on The Holy Bible and not just be politically correct and afraid to talk about God, and finally the History Channel made it possible. Discovery, National Geographic, AMC, etc. Did not want to take that risk. Let me say that it was a profitable risk. This series so far has been amazing and almost 100% accurate as The Bible. The battle scenes are well done but might be too graphic for young children. There is also some scenes of sensuality, but nothing compared to other shows on TV.The show begins with Noah and the Ark and then follows through with Abraham and his tribe. After that it moves on to Moses and the Israelites and how God freed them from slavery. I truly cannot wait to watch more episodes of this series and I as a believer recommend this to all people, believers and non-believers alike. It might save your life, it might save your soul. Overall an amazing interpretation of th Holy Book.
Best of the Best
Heartfelt, touching and so emotional. As a beliver, I was truly moved and emotional during the whole miniseries. Its a great ministry tool, and a great way to preach the Gospel to millions. Great Job!!!

The Hollow Crown: The Complete Series

Another triumph from BBC and the Bard!
Richard II - 5 STARS.
Perfect acting, incredible story, gorgeous costumes, beautiful cinematography. By far the best of the four, and mostly because of an electrifying performance by Ben Whishaw (Cloud Atlas, Skyfall). I asked myself why I hadn't seen Whishaw more often! His performance as Richard II is towering, electrifying, chameleon-like, moving, disturbing, delicate, multi-faceted, and most of all, brilliant. A phenomenal performance, and worthy of much praise indeed.

The supporting cast more than holds it's own: Patrick Stewart (always great, but sadly he leaves the narrative rather early), Clemence Poésy (a great, underrated French actress), David Suchet (reliable as ever), and Rory Kinnear (Who's Bolingbroke "bursts with valour and courage").

But let us give credit to where credit is due. Shakespeare...was one damn fine writer!

BEST SPEECH (delivered gloriously by Ben Whishaw):
For God's sake, let us sit upon the ground...
Within the hollow crown... keeps Death his court.
Shakespeare's historical plays can be a tough sell -- after all, they are political dramas that most modern people don't know much about.

But "The Hollow Crown" is up to that challenge, bringing to life Shakespeare's famous historical tetralogy ("Richard II," both parts of "Henry IV" and "Henry V") with an all-star cast and beautiful direction. The backgrounds are lush and the direction is powerful, but the real credit here goes to Tom Hiddleston, Patrick Stewart, Ben Whishaw and Jeremy Irons.

In "Richard II," a feud between Henry Bolingbroke (Rory Kinnear) and Thomas Mowbray (James Purefoy) leads to a duel... which is interrupted by King Richard II (Whishaw). Instead, the king banishes both men, and snatches the inheritance of Bolingbroke when his father (Patrick Stewart) finally dies. The nobles grow angry, and Bolingbroke begins to build a rebellion against his cousin -- with tragic results.

The story then skips about twenty years into the future...
Tom Hiddleston?
**********EDITED TO ADD: Well, the man's immense popularity has had an effect; Mr. Hiddleston is now listed first on the cast list (at least as it displays on my pc.) ******************************

I'm fairly stunned that the product listing doesn't mention Tom Hiddleston, considering the importance of his role as first Prince Hal and then King Henry V in the Henriad (hint: that would be three of the four plays in this package.) His performance was lauded by critics and awarded by public acclaim. Not to mention the guy rules Tumblr. In other words: huge fan following.

For more context, his well-remarked other roles in recent years include significant appearances in productions such as BBC period piece Return to Cranford (with Dame Judi Dench), Spielberg's War Horse, Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris, and..oh yes...as Loki in Marvel's Thor and The Avengers movies.

Presuming that this package contains the same material as that in the BBC product...

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (Two-Disc Special Edition) (DVD + UltraViolet Digital Copy)

Wait until Chrismas 2013
Almost clicked the order button, but due to my love of the extended versions of the original trilogy, I decided to do a little research before I made that mistake. in doing so, I discovered that the Blue-Ray/DVD set for release on March 19th will contain only the theatrical version of the movie. Warner Bros is including a teaser trailer containing Dragon Smaug with this version in order to entice people to buy it. The extended version of 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' will be released in time for Christmas 2013. As with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Warner Bros. is trying to stick it to the consumer again by hoping people will buy both versions. Sorry, WB... I can wait another nine months. In the meantime, I'll rent a copy to satisfy my urge to see it sooner.
The Hobbit Amazon Exclusive Extended Edition
Since Amazon doesn't list the release date (11/05/13) or have the special features detailed, here you go:

WHAT WILL WE SEE IN THE EXTENDED EDITION:

And the black arrows play a part in an ongoing story, for they are the one thing that can pierce the dragon's hide."

2. More king of the wood elves; THRANDUIL. Peter Jackson: "There are also issues with Thranduil. We get some of the reason why he and the dwarves had a falling out - to do with these white gems..."

3. More of HOBBITON. Producer Phillipa Boyens: "You are going to get more of Hobbiton. We always wanted to wend our way through Hobbiton, but in the end Bilbo has to run out of the door."

Grey's Anatomy: The Complete Ninth Season

Grey's Anatomy has been an excellent series.
I have purchased every season of Grey's and have watched every episode. While some are better than others, what series does not have it's up's and down. I know that some years, the series will end & I surely want to see the final episode when it comes. I consider Grey's Anatomy to be a cross between a medical drama and a soap opera - but I find it very entertaining to watch.
I LOVE GREYS!!
i love greys anatomy and currently have seasons 1-8, owning season 9 will add to my collection! The series will eventually end as all shows do when it does i want to own all DVD's of Greys. Season 9 was a great season can't wait for season 10!
GREAT
It wouldn't be a season of Grey's without the season finale leaving off.. So glad it is renewed for it's 10th season.. Hopefully it can go on for many more seasons.. Addicted

The Heat

Absolutely hilarious, from beginning to end.
One thing I hate about female-driven comedy is the oft-sub par material that women have to work with. The punchline is always something tasteless or stale - like age, body image or gender roles. For some reason, the misogynistic question of whether or not women are funny is still a topic of hot debate. Kristen Wiig's "Bridesmaids" should have been enough to shut these guys up once and for all, but alas, it was not.

"The Heat" reunites "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy, who, after 15 years in show business, was finally recognized as the star that she is, after the release of that film, which earned her an Academy Award nomination. Since then, McCarthy has been one busy gal - on her time off from filming her sitcom "Mike & Molly," this married mother of two has been filming movies left and right. She's a box office sure thing - the critically panned "Identity Thief" scored $135 million at the box office, and "The Heat", originally planned for an April...
Rude, crude but with heart
"The Heat" offers nothing new in the way of mismatched buddy comedies, but is hilariously entertaining regardless. Sandra Bullock plays an uptight FBI agent whose abrasive attitude has alienated her colleagues and whose shot at getting the big promotion rests on her ability to successfully complete a drug smuggling case with partner Boston cop Melissa McCarthy, who has her own, um, personality issues. McCarthy is currently alienated from her working class clan, too because of turning in her brother (Michael Rappaport), as a way to get him help for his drug problems. (Bullock's own "family" consists of a cat who used to belong to her but currently resides (his choice) with a neighbor.) The duo has the obligatory meet messy when Bullock filches McCarthy's parking spot and then mistakes McCarthy for a perp who's waiting to be interrogated. Neither attempts by their superiors (Thomas Wilson, Marlon Wayans) to mediate nor the stresses of the case itself is enough to make them meld...
movierewiew
Where do I even start? OK, lets start with the movie itself. The Heat was one of the funniest movies I ever seen, personally, I liked it better than The Hangover Trilogy. Sandra Bullock seemed odd in the beginning, but comedy queen Melissa MaCarthy brought out her inner sarcasm/foul language/comedy. The only con about this movie is the cursing, but hey, it made the movie even more enjoyable. Probably going to be the funniest movie of 2013.

South Park: The Complete Sixteenth Season

OMG, they killed-- oh, wait, never mind
I have watched South Park since its inception. The first two seasons were a hoot-- really, some very funny, original, and creative stuff, which was made all the better by the fact that the drawing was deliberately and self-consciously not at all slick. In later seasons-- and importantly, recent seasons, South Park has become uneven in the quality of the episodes, in terms of humor and creativity. At times, the humor and creativity and originality has been compromised for the sake of preachiness. At other times, the episodes are classics. But even at its worst, an episode of South Park will still contain a gem or two that can't be found anywhere else-- for example, in the most recent episode, where Butters sinks a cruise ship with a golf ball. That's why I continue to watch faithfully.
Been watching this show since around time it first came out
I Bought every season when i was little and sold every season for the next season im building my seasons back up and got about half them back slowly working on completing them with old box look and all. This season i watched tv and was a great season zipline cracked me up cartmen token episode cracked me up And love hearing commentary from matt and trey cant wait hear what got say. All i have to say is southpark is original and hope it keeps airing even after matt and trey die let someone else they know keep show good and keep it going FOREVER! its just that good
Oh Long Johnson
"South Park" has been one of the few animated television series that seems to have only gotten better with age. Every season, the show seems to improve a bit more. The animation of the show, despite being glorified versions of their construction paper cut outs from 15 years ago, has evolved drastically over the years and now features the likes of cel shading, computer animation, and even live-action segments. The writing of the show only gets more imaginative with each season as the show continues to put a viciously comical spin on current events, celebrities, and movies. It's taken 16 seasons to finally check out the show on Blu-ray. Even if you're a massive fan of the show, the mindset is that maybe the show doesn't really require fans to watch the show in high definition. But the show looks and sounds damn good in the format.

"The Complete Sixteen Season" features all 14 episodes from season 16 in a sleek two-disc Blu-ray package (or three-discs for the DVD). While the...

The Vampire Diaries: The Complete Fourth Season

Worth waiting all summer
The season starts right where it left off and answers in the first episode many of the questions we were left with in the season 3 finale. Will Elena complete the transition and become a vampire? Will she have chosen Damon after remembering everything? What will happen to Tyler and Caroline now that Klaus is possessing Tyler's body? Will Damon kill Rebecca for her part in Elena's death? It is a very satisfying first episode for fans of Team Stefan, not so much for fans of Team Damon. But for fans of TVD who watch the show for all characters and love the high quality and consistency of the writing and acting on this show , it was fantastic.
a bad season for my favorite show
WARNING: THIS REVIEW CONTAINS SPOILERS (but hopefully not too many major ones).

DISCLAIMER: I do actually like this show and plan on sticking with it, because I'm OCD and must see things through to the end. That being said, every show has a bad season - Buffy had the snooze-fest of season four, Angel had the truly terrible baby plot line in season three, Smallville had a dull-as-dishwater-Zod in season nine, and ... well, this is TVD's bad season. (I hope, because it's a mess and I'd hate to sit through another one.) The thing is, when the show is good, it's really good, and when it's bad, it's incredibly bad.

Watching this season reminded me of reading "Breaking Dawn." It started out promising then turned into total crap, but I kept reading hoping for the EPIC RESOLUTION that would make up for 500 pages of self-defeating, totally illogical bull that preceded it. Lo and behold, instead of an epic resolution, I got 40 pages of pontificating and vampires standing...
Still in love
Despite all the hate folks are showing for TVD lately, it's still a wonderful show. I love all the depth the characters are developing, Elena is becoming less whiney as a vampire, Damon and Klaus are still hot...but I am anxiously awaiting the return of Katherine!

Teen Beach Movie

Very nice movie
My grandchildren and I watched this movie tonite on the Disney Channel. We all loved it.

It is reminiscent of the Grease Movie with all the wonderful dancing and singing, and 50's clothing. But it is cleaner, and more family oriented.

We love Ross Lynch, and think he is a role model. We love seeing him on Austin and Ally and watch every week. I love watching his brothers and sister and him play and sing music, great talents and seem to have a wonderful family life. It is nice to see kids that are real role models and not ones that are made to seem that way by press agents but in reality have real issues.

We enjoyed seeing Maia Mitchell in this movie and thought she was charming. She made the movie a lot of fun and did a great job as a actress. She brought a element to the movie that really endeared her to the audience. Hope to see her in other movies.

This is just a fun movie, especially for girls, and I think it will be a classic...
My Daughter LOVES this on her KINDLE!!
I just purchased the insanely popular Teen Beach Movie right onto my daughters Kindle Fire and it took only 30 seconds to download and now we own movie! So easy to do, now we have her favorite movie on the go! GREAT TEEN/KIDS movie. The singing & dancing is so entertaining, I even enjoy watching with my daughter. GREAT MOVIE & EASY DOWNLOAD!
nice!
My daughter loved this movie, and has already watched it 3 times. Can't wait to see what kind of merchandise they come out with for the movie. I thought the movie was pretty cute myself, and the songs were catchy. We loved it!

Aladdin (Two-Disc Platinum Edition)

Finally, but beware of alterations!
When Disney's Aladdin was released on videotape and laserdisc for the first time in October 1993, it debuted with a PC alteration, immediately into the film, as a line from the opening song was changed because of concerns over Arab stereotyping - "Where they cut off your ear if they don't like your face" became the neutral "Where it's flat and immense and the heat is intense".
As the film makes is debut on DVD later this year, prepare for more changes, albeit subtle. Just like they did with The Lion King, the Disney team is not using the original theatrical presentation of the film, but a re-issue created for IMAX theatres, which featured some redrawn sequences, supposedly necessary because the original footage in question was problematic on the giant IMAX screen (Examples of the changes to The Lion King can be easily found on the web). The difference this time around is that no one ever saw it. The IMAX presentations were financially unrewarding to Disney, and Aladdin was never...
Wow! Classic Disney flick finally available in 2 editions
Aladdin" continued Disney's hot streak of family friendly but witty animated classics that broke box office records. Unfortunately, the magic was to last for a couple more movies. No small part of the success of "Aladddin" can be attributed to the songwriting team of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Menken and Ashman (who also wrote the winning songs for "Beauty and The Beast" and "Little Shop of Horrors"). Also, the witty self assured direction, like that of "Beauty and The Beast", helped define a hip, new Disney that had something for everyone.

So what's the difference between the "Special Editon" and the "Special Edition Gift Set". Plenty but as to whether it's worth the extra cost depends on how much of a fan you are of the film. The "Special Edition" comes only with the DVDs (the featurettes and documentaries are discussed below). The "Special Edition Gift Set" comes with all that plus six original illustrations on heavy stock of characters from the film. You also get a...
That's Ah-Bah-Bwah.
Aladdin is one of the last great animated films from Disney, and a lot of the credit is owed to the bad guys. The voices of Jafar and Iago are dead-on perfect for their characters and when combined with Robin Williams in a role where he can really cut loose, they create movie gold.

In a classic poor-boy-makes-good story, it would be easy to ignore the villian and concentrate on the "heart of gold" and love-interest storylines, but directors Clements and Musker gave plenty of screen time for the wonderfully sneering and arrogant Jafar. The interplay between him and Gottfried as Iago is nearly as fun as listening to Williams's wide selection of impressions and verbal explosions (my favorite is Bill Buckley with "restrictions and quid pro quos").

Some of the extras are snooze-inducing, but the commentary is engaging, especially if you've seen the film a few times. This is definitely worth the upgrade from your old VHS copy.

Homeland: The Complete First Season

Showtime Scores With This Deft Political Thriller Set On U.S. Soil: Smart And Sophisticated Adult Entertainment
As 2011 comes to its conclusion, it is no big surprise (for anyone who was watching anyway) that Showtime's "Homeland" is being recognized with major award nominations and critics' group prizes as one of the best programs of the season. Sophisticated, intelligent, complex, and rewarding--I had hoped for a lot from this intriguing and contemporary spin on the Manchurian Candidate theme, but the show served up that and so much more as well. From the executive producers responsible for "24," the show is a stunning and surprisingly realistic drama about family, an incisive look at modern terrorism, a bold political thriller, and a study of obsession all rolled into one gloriously produced entertainment. Add one of television's best ensemble casts, and "Homeland" easily earns its reputation as must-see TV. Showing up on numerous top ten lists, cited by TV Guide as the best show of the year, and getting Golden Globe nominations for Best Drama and for leads Claire Danes and Damian...

Blown away by Homeland, incredibly tense and thrilling
2011 was a great year for television, with lots of established shows doing some of their best work ever. But in my view, the best thing going on TV was a new show that quickly ascended to the top of the heap, Showtime's sinister psychological thriller HOMELAND. The central storyline revolves around CIA agent Carrie Mathison, still haunted by the events of 9/11, and her belief that returning war hero Sergeant Nicholas Brody has in fact turned against his country as an al-Qaeda operative.

You know they had to be aiming high with the cast they assembled. The star is Claire Danes, making a long-awaited return to TV after a decade and a half in Hollywood. Given Danes' acting résumé, you might expect her to play a straight-laced CIA agent, but this character is anything but. Her Carrie Mathison is brilliant, fearless, determined, but also reckless, abrasive, unstable, and totally unpredictable. It's a tremendous piece of casting, as we've never seen Claire in...

House of Cards: The Complete First Season

And You Thought "The Exorcist" Was Scary "West Wing" gave viewers a taste of a White House populated by government folk who fought the good fight and had its citizenry foremost in their concerns. No such luck here. In this outing, the people of the United States barely exist in the minds of government. They are fodder for those seeking to gain, or seeking to stay in, power. Here's the scoop. Kevin Spacey plays congressman Frank Underwood, a very bright, savvy individual who knows his way around Capitol Hill. He knows how to get things done because he knows what's in people's souls and how to play them to his advantage. His wife, Claire (Robin Wright) heads up a a more socially conscious organization in the private sector but is no less addicted to power than her husband. They have a peculiar relationship to say the least. This is almost a diary of the various 'projects' in which they are involved and how they play them, even when unforeseen things happen. This is some ugly, scary stuff. In my heart of... Mr. Machiavelli goes to Washington Kevin Spacey shines as congressman Francis Underwood. A modern day Machiavelli. There is no good and evil in the world of politics, only power. Netflix hit a homerun with this series. An outstanding cast, script, and direction. David Fincher's brilliance shines through in this look at the interworkings of U.S. politics. With some dark twists and turns and a nuanced look at people's ambitions and fears, House of Cards stands stronger than its title'd metaphor. Robin Wright as Claire Underwood is excellent and at times more cunning than her husband. Kate Mara shows great promise as an up and coming reporter looking for a fresh scoop. The rest of the cast is also very strong. Not a weak character or element to the show. My wife and I devoured the entire season in less than a week. Highly recomend. Amazing first season. The show premiered all at once and awed me enough to get me to watch the entire season with very little breaks between episodes. I highly recommend this and will purchase it on Blu-ray, despite being able to watch it on Netflix. The cast is fantastic, with Kevin Spacey nailing his role as the smart and evil Francis Underwood, the series is also well written and has enough twists to shock you.

The Wizard of Oz: 75th Anniversary Edition (Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / UltraViolet)

An OZ-some DVD Experience
Like most baby boomers, I've watched this film dozens of times in the past on broadcast TV, then VHS tape, then LaserDisc ... but I had never actually SEEN "The Wizard of Oz" until this newly restored DVD came out. It's an amazing transfer. The sepia-tone Kansas sequences are startlingly sharp and clear, and the Technicolored world "Over the Rainbow" is truly dazzling. I found myself fascinated by details I had never noticed before: the glittering corn stalks in the Scarecrow's field; the mirror-like floors of the Emerald City; the polished buttons on the guardsmen's uniforms. Incredibly, even the individual grains of red sand in the Witch's hourglass stood out and glistened! All these minor-but-sumptuous visual details served to heighten the magical spell that the film has always woven, enhancing the performances, the story, and the music.
The DVD extras are a mind-boggling embarrassment of riches. The "Making Of" documentary hosted by...
(Blu-ray update) Not a restoration, but an entirely different view of the film.
I was just critized for foisting off the following review of the 3-disk DVD set as a review of the new Blu-ray. I didn't; Amazon did. As anyone who's been here for a while will notice, Amazon throws all DVD reviews into the same bucket, regardless of the edition. So don't blame me.

I just got the Blu-ray, and will have some comments on it at the end.

There's no need to discuss "The Wizard of Oz" itself, a classic among classics (though I'll have something to say about its "philosophy" later on). You probably want to know whether the UltraResolution transfer justifies the purchase.

It does. Oh, yes it does.

"The Wizard of Oz" has always looked good, one of the better Technicolor films. Unlike "Gone With the Wind", which was generally dark and desaturated, and which UltraResolution greatly improved, I didn't expect much enhancement for "Oz".

Was I ever wrong. I stared with my jaw hanging open. "Oz" is the best UltraResolution...

Monsters University (DVD)

Why the lessons in `Monsters University' are Pixar's most bold yet
SPOILERS BELOW. DO NOT READ THIS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE FILM.

If you don't care about the end being discussed, then by all means read on...

My wife and I saw Monsters University and both loved it. Many of the Top Critics on Rotten Tomatoes however, seemed to miss the point of the film entirely.

"This is a safe, predictable, edge-free, nearly bland effort from a studio that rarely hedges its bets." - Richard Roeper

"[It] conforms to [Pixar's] apparent drift toward the average, with toy sales taking priority over originality." - Liam Lacey

"Monsters University is cute, and funny, and the animation, though not exactly inspired, is certainly colorful." - Steven Rae

"Mostly memorable for being fine but forgettable." - Betsy Sharkey

Since 1995, Pixar has dominated computer animated filmmaking. They constantly win Academy Awards (9 nominations, 7 wins for Best Animated Feature) and are universally praised for their...
Pixar returns to its magical ways.
Dumb me! Dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb, dumb me! All summer I put my faith and hope in the big blockbuster films, the Iron Man 3's and Star Treks of the world. And from Man of Steel to Pacific Rim almost without fail these over budgeted, underwritten explosiony action films left me feeling disappointed and underwhelmed. Except for World War Z there is not a single movie I've seen this summer that I can truly say was a great film. Some were better than others (Oblivion and Pacific Rim were both pretty good) but considering their competition was Iron Man 3 and Star Trek Into Darkness that's not saying much. All the while I put off seeing Monsters U for weeks. "It looks silly" I said, "Pixar has lost its mojo" the idiot side of my brain insisted. Well, that sure teaches me. I will never doubt Pixar again. Even if they make another mediocre film like Brave, they have more than proven themselves still capable of making a damn good film.

Wall E will always be my favorite Pixar...
Even though It's A Prequel, "Monsters University" Continues to Surprise Us With Profound Insights
***This review may contain spoilers.***

Like "Monsters, Inc.", "Monsters University" (MU) won't win any recognition for its originality. Relating the tale of the first encounter between all-eye green cyclops Mike Wazowski (Billy Crystal) and blue, hulking, bear-like James "Sully" Sullivan (John Goodman) at the titular institute of higher "scare" learning, MU cribs all over the place. As other posters have noticed, MU borrows fragments of other college-themed movies like "Animal House", the Harry Potter movie heptology (seven films), and even a smidgen of "Back to School". Most tellingly, however, MU is heavily in debt to "The Hunger Games", since the meets held to determine which monster fraternities will be eliminated from the prestigious "scare curriculum" and even from the university take up the bulk of the film. MU robustly and hilariously satirizes the aspects of college and frat life you would expect, but later reveals unexpected insights about the limits of...

Criminal Minds: The Eighth Season

Criminal Minds is the best, especially instantly from Amazon! This was a great episode, I almost didn't recognize Kim Wayans or McKenzie Phillips, they were great. However I miss Emily, The new girl is good, but she's not Emily Prentiss, I love the show because they have strong women that don't have to show skin to get notice or play super cop women, they seem real. I was happy that they brought JJ back. I like agent Hotchter. Great series! Love this show! Been watching it since its inception! :) Would recommend to anyone to watch it! They won't be sorry 3 Stars I have been watching Criminal Minds since its first episode and have always loved it. The quality of the show has had its ups and down- the season in which Prentiss and JJ were dismissed was one of the worst. Many fans (including myself) didn't like the new agent, Seaver, who replaced the two veteran stars. But I think this season is truly worse even than Seaver's season (season 6, I think). Why? Because of the newest team member, Agent Blake. Her character is cold, dull, and has almost no sense of humor. I can't see her really bonding with the rest of the team, and in fact, she expressed a dislike for "sensitive" people. Does that mean she doesn't like Garcia or Morgan? They both get a bit sensitive and the cases sometimes get to them emotionally. Is she saying she'd rather work with robots? I truly hope that the show either makes some changes to Blake's character or kindly asks her leave. And what's with the endings? Why are they always the same? What's going...

Dexter: The Complete Final Season

Disappointing Season; Honest Assesment (with no big spoilers)
This is an honest review for the person who is actually considering buying season 8 and has presumably seen one or more previous seasons. (no one starts on the final season, do they?) With a couple minor exceptions, I won't spoil anything.

It seems many of the other reviews have taken issue with the plot; love it or hate it. I'm here to tell you, it's irrelevant. Why? An implausible or unrealistic plot will always be trumped by character development. If the characters are believable, likeable, captivating, and have chemistry with one another, the show will be fun to watch, irrespective of the plot. Imagine this for a plot line: "Protagonist serial killer rescues stepsister after she falls in love with doctor who is also a serial killer and protagonist's brother." Plausible? Not a chance. But it doesn't matter- everyone agrees, season 1 was one of the most enjoyable to watch. It was all because of the characters. Great characters make the story captivating regardless of how...
IT'S REALLY HARD TO END REMARKABLE SHOWS
Yes, unfortunately it happened. "Dexter" came to an end. I've seen every one of the ninety-six episodes of the show (some of them several times, my personal favorite being episode #84) and I don't think it's fair to say that Season 8 was weak. It wasn't as strong as Seasons 1-4 or as Season 7 but we were introduced to some interesting, compelling characters (Dr. Vogel, for example) and to unexpected turns in the story. For me, Season 8 started falling appart in episode 94: The conclusion of the show was really disappointing. When I finished watching the last episode I realized that maybe it's just too hard to end a remarkable show with a bang. Look what happened at the conclusion of "Seinfeld" back in 1998. I have been imagining different scenarios for the ending of "Dexter" and I haven't been able to come up with one that I would have found completely satisfying (I always envisioned Dexter being killed on the last episode.) All I can say is that "Dexter" was indeed a remarkable...
From Walking in Full Sunlight...
...to drowning in pure darkness.

It's been six months since Debra murdered LaGuerta to save his brother. While Dexter is living the high life, free from all clouds of suspicion, Debra has quit the force and is now working as a bounty hunter.

Dexter's concluding words in the last season, "We all make up our own rules" takes centre stage.

With the one constant relationship, the one unconditional support in his life gone, Dexter's tenuous grip on familial support is gone. Dexter must step up to the plate lest his sister go off the deep end in more ways than a few.

The dark secrets behind Harry's Code are revealed. Dexter is fleshed out in profound, minute detail.

Perhaps the strongest component of this powerful finale are the sheer quantity of challenging moral dilemmas the characters and viewers are confronted with. Without spoiling anything, I'll simply finish by saying that there is more here than in a thousand introductory ethics...

The Wolverine (Blu-ray / DVD + DigitalHD)

Film review: The Wolverine (2013)
Comparing "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" to "The Wolverine" is like comparing apples to oranges. They are both about Marvel's burly and animalistic Wolverine, but they could not be any more different. Origins seemed to explore a bit of Wolvie's past under the framework of the prior X-Men movies (i.e. familiar characters, settings, and themes), but unfortunately it didn't hit home like the prior X-Men films. The writing fell flat, because 20th Century Fox took odd twists and turns with fan favorites like Gambit and Deadpool and then never expanded on them in future films like they promised. Instead of bridging Wolverine's backstory to the acclaimed X-Men trilogy, Fox ended up widening the gap.

However, "The Wolverine," takes an entirely different approach to the eponymous character. Audiences get to see the Adamantium and claws stripped away in a more emotionally driven film. Wolverine is facing an existential crisis. Following the events of "X-Men: The Last Stand"...
The Definitive Wolverine Movie
I Have too admit this movie is a little slow in the beginning but after it finds a pace it is an excellent movie that is Much better than its predecessor X-Men Origins:Wolverine. People Expecting great action sequences like The Avenger be warned because even though it does have GREAT Action Sequences (for example, The Bullet train scene), it is mostly A character driven story that dwells deep into Wolverine's inner troubles as well as the new ones he faces during his journey in Japan. The movie also has a Surprise Ending that will satisfy any x-men movie fan an will make the hardcore X-Men fanboys(like me) go BAT SHIT CRAZY(in a good way).
This movies has its flaws but it is A solid movie in the X-Men franchise.
My Grade:8.9/10.
The BLU RAY 3D version is the one to get if you want the unleashed extended cut
The extended version itself is NOT in 3D but the only way to get it is if you buy the BLU RAY 3D set

If you want the actual movie, buy this version

Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (Three-Disc 40th Anniversary Collector's Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo)

Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory BLU-RAY
I won't bore you with yet another "review" of this film or my personal opinion of it. You want to know what I think of the BD version, right?

My short answer: This BD looks and sounds so good that I've already given away my DVD of it.

The Blu-ray Disc of Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory is the best I have ever seen of the film. Image quality is sharp & clean and the colors stand out like candy. The DolbyTrueHD sound is excellent allowing all the dialogue and songs to come through crystal-clear.

This BD case is like a book with many pages for the fans. My ONLY (small) regret is that the back cover containing all the BD information is not printed on the book, and instead is merely a printed page that eventually comes loose and detaches after a short while (whereas my "Easy Rider" BD is the same type of book and the information is printed on the back cover - much better!).

If you like (or love) this movie and are wondering if the BD is worth...
One of the all-time classics in a must-own DVD
The 30th Anniversary Edition of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory was originally botched as a fullscreen-only effort. However, Warner listened to the people and gave them a wonderful widescreen transfer.
Colors are vibrant, the 5.1 Dolby Digital track is very nice, and there are a handful of cool extras. There is the 30-minute documentary "Pure Imagination" which shows some of the cast today, including all the children and Gene Wilder himself. The interviews of the cast looking back at the movie which was the defining thing for so many of them is very interesting. The documentary on the whole is rather fulfilling. While one feels that the documentary could have delved deeper and maybe been an hour-long, at a brisk 30 minutes, the pacing seems okay and it won't leave you wanting too much more. There is a limited amount of archival on-set "B" roll footage, but all that is there is interesting.
Also included is the original theatrical trailer (Warner left...
Widescreen ... fullscreen ... Guess what? Everybody's WRONG!
Well, not exactly... Some here have complained that the widescreen version is simply a matted version of a full screen print, and that the widescreen presentation chops off part of the image at the top and bottom. Well, according to my copy of the DVD, that is only half correct. I own the 25th Anniversary 1996 release of this film on DVD, which has both the widescreen and full screen version on one DVD. I compared numerous scenes in freeze-frame between the widescreen and full screen versions. In widescreen, sure enough, a bit of the top and bottom of the image seems to be cut off when compared to the full screen version. But I also noticed that when viewing the full screen version, an equal bit is missing from the left and right compared to the widescreen version. So no matter which version you watch, you aren't seeing "everything". But which is proper? After comparing many images, I conclude that the widescreen version is what we are supposed to be seeing. Consider the...

Breaking Bad: The Complete First Season

On Demand Versions Not Same As DVD, is Censored
The DVD version of Breaking Bad is uncensored. Amazon VOD is not. There is no additional content but certain words are not blanked out and certain screens are not blurred. I don't want to give examples since that would create spoilers, but you'll see the differences in the pilot episode at a minimum.
Spectacular
I think many, when looking at the main star of this show (Bryan Cranston) will have only really been familiar with him from Malcolm In The Middle. He played Hal, a simple Dad with simple values and an unbeatable love for his family. Who would have thought that he can take a character with the same basic love of his family and create something incredibly unique from that. In Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston plays Chemistry professor Walter White who's married with a handicap son who suffers from Cerebral Palsy and a child on the way.
One day Walter is hit with the ultimate bombshell as he finds he has inoperable lung cancer and has little time left to live. Walter realises that he can't assure his families financial security for the little time he has left being a teacher. He hears about a raid on a crystal meth lab that seizes millions of dollars worth of drugs which he decides that he must be a part of that. He knows how to make the best crystal meth ever seen, but not how to get it...
Don't want TV-14 Version!
WOW! After watching this on AMC and hearing all sorts of language, I was very surprised to have the F-word bleeped out, especially after the main character just grabbed himself and said shine this! There is also a scene where a women's breasts are pixeled out. I'm 52 and feel cheated, I don't want my TV censored and for that I give it 1 star, I could not truly appreciate the show with parts of the dialogue bleeped out. I seriously doubt that I'll be buying the other seasons via Amazon or if it's all VOD then I'll have to do DVD's or just not bother at all.

Amazon should state somewhere that you are buying a censored version, if they had I would not have bothered.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (Single-Disc Edition)

Cloudy with a chance of awesome, more like it.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (Phil Lord and Chris Miller, 2009)

There are some movies where you come out of the theater talking about the camerawork and the acting, discussing plot points, picking things apart, arguing whether it was really the seventy-eighth best movie you've ever seen. And there are some movies where you exit the theater and say "Dude. That was AWESOME." Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is very much of the latter variety; no matter how silly and/or stupid the final half-hour may be (as the few critics who didn't like it have pointed out), it's still a blast.

Flint Lockwood (voice of Bill Hader, recently of Tropic Thunder) is a bumbling inventor who comes up with things that are kind of useful ("The Hair-Unbalder!" is the movie's first big laugh), but generally stupid. He lives on a small island just off the coast, the entire economy of which is derived from the sardine industry. It collapses, we learn, when the rest of the world realizes...
Digital Copy Only Works on PSP
First, I loved the movie. My complaint is not with the film but with the so called digital copy that is indicated as included on the cover. The "Digital Copy" included with this blu-ray can only be used on a Sony PSP when installed via a Sony PS3. I often preorder these family movies because I want to have the digital copy for my son to watch on my laptop or iPod. Had I known that this digital copy would not work like every other digital copy I've purchased; I would not have paid retail. I will certainly be thinking twice before purchasing another Sony blu-ray with a "Digital Copy."
Blu-ray: Enjoyable animated film - Note: A 3D version on Blu-ray is coming out later this year
In 2009, the animated film "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" was released in theaters. Adapted from the popular book from 1978 by Judi Barrett and illustrations by Ron Barrett, CWACoM took three years to develop and feature animation by Sony Pictures Animation.

The film adaptation and direction is by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (both are executive producers of the popular CBS sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" and also the MTV animated series "Clone High"). Music is by Mark Mothersbaugh ("Fanboys", "Mama's Boy", "Lords of Dogtown") and the film is produced by Pam Marsden (producer of "Dinosaur" and "Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas").

"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" received positive reviews from critics and debuted at #1 in the box office, raking in $180+ million worldwide. Now the film gets its first Blu-ray release and includes the Blu-ray, the DVD and a digital copy (a code is provided to download a digital copy from the PlayStation Network) for...

Breaking Bad: The Complete Fourth Season

The parallels of good and evil.
The best television dramas of all time don't TELL you what is good or bad, or WHO is good or bad - they let people be people, and then you form your own opinions of the characters. From the Sopranos, to the Wire, to the Shield, and now Breaking Bad. And honestly, I think this may surpass them all, even the Sopranos.

Meet Walter White. Well, if you're already on Season 4, I assume you know his story. From dorky chemistry teacher/car wash worker to million-dollar methamphetamine cook, the transformation is unbelievable, yet believable at the same time. You know his story, how he got here, and it all seems to fit. The writers have made it clear for a long time that Breaking Bad was similar to Scarface - that Walt is comparable to the transformation of Mr. Chips to Scarface, and this season shows that perfectly.

Walt has and still believes coming into season 4 that he is doing this all for his family. But is he? How far will he go? And is this all for money,...
"She's got an ass like an onion...makes me want to cry." - Hank Shrader
This television series has forever skewed my view of TV these days. Suddenly, my other favorite shows don't seem as engaging. The plots seem tired and the dialogue cliched. This is what happens when you've watched Breaking Bad. I recently did a two week marathon of the first three seasons and my only regret afterwards was that I had to endure the long agonizing wait of a new episode each week.

Season 4 lives up to the standards of excellence set by the previous seasons. What I love is how the writers have no fear of painting themselves in a corner. You wonder if they even know how to get their characters out of jam or are they guessing like the rest of us? There are many "Holy crap!" moments this season and it's a joy to see how Walter and Jesse manage to keep their heads above water as the mayhem slowly pulls them under.

Hold on... Why are you even reading this? Go watch the show for crying out loud.
5 stars plus 5 more
I rarely purchase tv series on DVD.......this is the best written, most creative, dark, fantastically human, amazingly addictive television show I've seen since well forever.....My boyfriend rented season 1 for me to watch and we watched it together I was hooked 15 minutes into the first episode. We then went and rented season 2 finished both in one weekend each. Then Season 3 getting ready to come out in video store and I couldn't stand it so I went to the local big box retailer and purchased season three......if one and two don't blow your mind season three well...... lets just say I didn't think the writing or the acting could maintain or for that matter get any better and damn I was wrong........fantastic. I am so addicted I went ahead and purchased from Amazon Season 1 & 2. I am into the 4th season on TV and can't wait wait wait for Season 4 on DVD. Best ever tv show! A must see for all . Even if you are not a tv series person.....you won't be able to stop......I bet someone will...

Rocky: The Undisputed Collection (Rocky / Rocky II / Rocky III / Rocky IV / Rocky V / Rocky Balboa) [Blu-ray]

Enough about the price drop complaining, review the product!
Ok, I watched this set I borrowed from a friend and the picture isn't as bad as everyone says it is. Somewhere someone said they felt like they were watching a VHS tape...give me a break! While they obviously could have done a better job cleaning these up, they are for sure better than the DVD versions. But it's still a decent transfer...I'm sure there they will eventually be completely remastered.

As for those of you complaining about the price droppings...have you noticed the significant drop overall in blu-ray pricing? Now the blu-ray is becoming more mainstream, the prices are coming down! If there are no advantages to pre-ordering, then don't get it! Everyone has had a situation where they paid for something and later saw it cheaper and lost a few bucks. Amazon is still cheaper than going out to Best Buy or Wal-mart and getting it. Factor in that the majority of Amazon users don't have to pay tax and can have the items shipped to you for FREE, then that is even...
Best Rocky you'll ever see
The Rocky series is my favorite series of movies hands down. I know they are cliche and campy but I just adore them. This transfer is one of the best I've seen IMO. Now don't expect to watch Rocky I-V and it look as good as the Avatar blu ray because it just won't. But they are great transfers and the sound that is picked up on them that I've never heard before watching the old DVD releases is just amazing. If you like Rocky and are a fan of HD then you owe it to yourself to get this. The packaging looks great as well.

..And enough about the price drop. Seriously. If you want to complain, blog about it. Create a discussion on this product. Don't rate the product poorly because YOU paid too much.
Video Quality Breakdown
If you are looking at this you know this is a classic series of movies. I am here to attempt to review the quality if the blu-ray transfer for each movie. I want a potential buyer to know what they are getting when it comes to a the video quality presented in this set

Case:

The design here is compact and neat. There is an oversized blu ray keep case that holds all 7 discs. The discs are in back to back holders.

Image Quality

Rocky :
This is definitely the best quality we have ever gotten. There is a question as to weather or not this is the best possible transfer we could get, but it is very difficult to judge something on conjecture. Anyway, the aspect ratio is 1.85:1 with a 1080p/mpeg2 transfer. This is the same remastering as the 2006 blu ray and we may not get a better version for a long time.

While watching the movie it looks very good, but there is significant noise on the screen at pints which can be distracting. This...

NCIS: The Complete Tenth Season

NCIS is still the best!
The relationships between the characters continues to grow as does each individual character. Add the drama and it's the best!
We love NCIS!
We love watching NCIS. Our main reason for being hooked on the show is the wonderful characters. After watching them for season after season we feel like we know them. ( When out shopping a few weeks ago we saw some scull patterned pajama bottoms and I started to tell my husband "we should get these for Abby.") We love how the characters have developed over the years and love how they interact with each other. This is the only television program that we watch and hope it goes on for many more years.
Great---just great
I may be biased, but I absolutely love this TV drama, so every episode is interesting and a must-see. I can't get over the chemistry of the cast and the humor they add to crime scene investigation. I could watch this show all day long and not get bored.

This Is The End (Two Disc Combo: Blu-ray / DVD + UltraViolet Digital Copy)

One of the funniest movies of the past few years: Laugh out loud, ridiculous fun.
With the amount of talent this has lined up, it would be strange if it was not a good time at the movies. Based on a short film called Jay & Seth vs. the Apocalypse, this movie ups the ante in every sense of the word. The comedy you have come to expect from Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Craig Robinson, James Franco, Jonah Hill, and Danny McBride is top notch. The rest of the cast, all playing themselves, is also played perfectly. Injected with horror in fact, some right out of famous horror films like Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, this movie also brings the scares and gore, although it never loses sight that it is a comedy, first and foremost.

When Jay comes to LA to party with Seth, they end up hitting a party at James Franco's new, druglord-type mansion. All the celebrities are there: the main cast of 6 mentioned above, Michael Cera, Rihanna, and others that I won't spoil the cameos for. Then, it comes to a crashing halt when the party is stopped by the oncoming End of...
Lots of Fun
This movie does not really concern itself too much with a story line. It is just meant to be a bit of fun and it achieves that well. The actors really play up to stereotypes and you can tell they had fun filming this.
Funny, but a little rough
Great first act, boring and overly long middle, and great (yet predictable) ending. Funny and talented cast, but I feel like it lacked the polish of having Judd Apatow at the helm.

Shaun T's FOCUS T25 DVD Workout

Don't let the 25 minutes fool you, you will work in this program
This is a good, fun workout program with the production quality you would expect from a Beachbody product (note: I am NOT a BB coach, so have nothing to sell you, I'm just giving my opinion).

This program is neither Insanity nor Asylum. It's about as intense as Insanity without all of the crazy plyometrics but with a little of the additional strength and agility from Asylum, but I wouldn't say it has the same focus as Asylum. Asylum is really geared more toward the very serious athlete, while T25 is more geared toward the very serious fitness enthusiast. To be honest, most of us aren't training for a professional level sport, so this is not a problem and you get an amazing workout in just 25 minutes. And it doesn't require all of the equipment of an Asylum-type workout, just a mat and the included band or some weights if you have them.

There's a Shakeology commercial before each workout, which is really annoying, but the discs are programmed so that you can fast...
What's the difference?
First off a little about me. I'm in my thirties and I have done various at home dvd's like Gilad, P90x, Insanity and Insanity Asylum. I have also worked with trainers and worked out on my own but I am by no means a fitness expert. I know a lot of people have asked what is the difference between Insanity and this new workout? I know Shaun T himself has said that the programs shouldn't be compared but it is inevitable.

So if you look at the first month of Insanity and take away the stretch those routines are roughly a half hour or less which pretty much equals the same amount of time as Focus T25. Now I have only done the first month workouts but here are some major differences I've noticed. T25 features progressive exercises. For example when you do switch kicks you start standing on the floor with no jumping and simply do a low switch kick. After around thirty seconds you will then jump and do a normal switch kick while still keeping your legs low. After this you...
Shaun T makes working out HARD, but you'll get FAST results!
~~ Although my review starts with my initial impressions of the program, I include updates about my experience doing six weeks of Focus T25. At the end of this review, I provide my overall thoughts about the program. ~~~

I'm only a few days into the ten-week program, but I thought I would share some thoughts about Focus T25 in case some people have questions. I'll be sure to update my review as I use this program, and will share my results. Since my husband and I are doing this together, I'll be sure to include his impressions, too.

~~ BACKGROUND ~~

As a bit of background, I'm a fitness DVD junkie, and have about 350 workout DVDs in my collection; I have worked out consistently for over 25 years, ever since I was 15. I consider myself to be an advanced exerciser, and am always on the lookout for new workouts. I am not a Beachbody coach or affiliated with the company in any way, but I've bought a lot of Beachbody sets in the past since they are...

Homeland: The Complete Second Season

"I'm more alone than I was in the bottom of that hole in Iraq." - Nicholas Brody
SPOILER-FREE

I was worried about season 2 of Homeland; worried that they would not be able to re-capture the atmosphere and intensity of the first. In a way, I was a little right. I personally think the first season is quite a bit better, but being in one of the top 5 television dramas currently on television, it's easily a 5/5 stars still.

It's really hard to say too much without giving away spoilers. The best way to put it - things change...and they change A LOT. The whole dynamics of the show are different this season. A startling revelation is discovered early on and turns the show completely on its head. The formula is different, but for the most part, the outcomes are the same. It is still one of the shows best at creating tension and suspense and is a true CIA thriller.

CAST - the actors are superbly cast. Mandy Patinkin as Saul is incredible as ever this season, and even gets almost a whole episode dedicated to his acting talents...
Homeland Season 1 & 2
A must see program from Season One thru Season Two finish. And the reason the complete Season Two is not yet available is because the final episode just aired 12.16.2012 at 10pm on ShowTime here on Long Island. The intensity is amazing. Try to second guess the ending of each episode. The thought process that went into developing the story line is brilliant. But since the original concept was developed in Isreal, a nation that has been under constant terrorist treat since it's inception is what makes the program so real, so authentic. And to get to watch the entire Season without delay is worth the price.
If you liked 24, you'll like this show better
**May contain spoilers**

I would give Season 1 of this show more stars since it was more plausible. Both Seasons, however, had me twisting in angst - and I liked it. I detest waiting for next week or next season. But Season 1 of Homeland sucked me in. Only the audience and CIA agent Carrie Matheson (Claire Danes) know that returned POW Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) is a closet terrorist. He shot and killed his friend without batting an eyelash, wore a C4 vest to kill the vice president of the U.S. (only to back out) and began an affair with Carrie. The audience does not know if Carrie is really in love with Brody or just trying to gather more information. As Carrie frantically attempts to derail Brody's terrorist quest, Brody takes out a restraining order on her and warns her to leave him alone. She cannot and appeals to Brody's daughter to call her father on his cell phone just as he is trying to get the C4 vest to work in an underground bunker. For her efforts,...

Star Trek Into Darkness (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital Copy)

Special features are all split up between vendor exclusive
The official Blu-ray has seven mini-featurettes. If this seems like it is a half-assed release, it's because Paramount has divvied up all the other features, including the commentary tracks with the cast and director J.J. Abrams, and several additional featurettes. The list of missing content on the U.S. wide-release Blu-ray (which is what is being sold on Amazon) includes 5 more featurettes (The Journey Continues... Again, Rebuilding the Enterprise, Full of Wrath, Kirk & Spock and Visual Preferences), plus the commentary with J.J. Abrams and the crew and a theatrical trailer. The featurettes and trailer are likely what's on the Bonus Discs at Target and Best Buy and the CinemaNow downloads (Best Buy U.S. appears to have its content via CinemaNow download while the same content is on a Bonus Disc in Canada), and the commentary is obviously with iTunes. All this means, if you buy the "normal version" here on Amazon, you're getting less than half the special features created for the...
Paramount is ripping YOU off!
I know you want to. I want to. BUT DON'T DO IT!
Don't buy this blu-ray. Paramount markers thought it would be a good idea to make retailers feel special (not amazon though) and split up all the special features, created by the filmmakers, for the fans. So no commentary (even though it exists). And only a small portion of special features.

What does this mean? If you want all the special features created for this release, you have to buy 3 different versions of the blu-ray plus the itunes version (for the director's commentary).

This is not a good practice to support. Don't let these idiots take advantage of you. While it sucks to not be able to own this sci-fi gem, look at the release calendar for paramount following this. Expect similar practices for World War Z.

The best way to show these jerks they're wrong is to not buy this movie.

Live long and prosper
A Must See (from a huge Star Trek fan)
From my wife Sarah: I've been a fan of Star Trek since the first series. This movie was excellent.

Here's why:

- The story was engaging, exciting, and had plenty of edge of your seat moments.

- The way it wove the new story together using prior movie and TV themes to build on was kind of genius. Those who know Star Trek will enjoy that.

- It had humor with a few good laughs and chuckles, but it also brought tears to my eyes.

- I loved the way they developed the relationships between the main characters, especially between Spock and Kirk. I very much disagree with the poster who said there wasn't enough character development. I felt it was quite the opposite.

- There were surprises. Especially one big one, which I won't reveal. I enjoyed that this movie wasn't predictable.

- The casting was spot on. It's so believable that these are the young versions of Spock, Kirk, etc.

- The acting was...

How I Met Your Mother: Season Eight

How could HIMYM ever go wrong?
I had just finished all of Seasons 1 through 7 on Netflix and I didn't know what I was going to do to watch Season 8. It's not on Hulu or any other valid website, the DVD isn't released yet and probably won't be until the fall AFTER the new (and final) season starts. I couldn't bear to miss more and find a way to catch up later, so buying the instant video episodes on here was one of the best decisions I've made! Season 8 is hilarious, touching, and everything else good about this show. I highly recommend buying the instant vids if you need to find a quick way to watch Season 8!
Amazing show
God, I love this show. I recommend you watch it now, its so funny! Legen - wait for it - dary!
Loved it
Since me and my husband are the same age as the gang we really enjoy it. Also it is amazing to see that relationships and jokes are cross cultural .

Halloween (35th Anniversary Edition) [Blu-ray]

A Comparison Between Halloween's Two Most Popular DVD Versions
Halloween. What a perfect title for a Horror movie. It's hard to believe back in 1977 that there had never been any movie, let alone a Horror film, that incorporated that title. And what good usage it got. Written, directed, and even musically scored by John Carpenter (with great assistance by then girlfriend Debra Hill), this was truly a film that brought Horror to it's roots, leaving an impact that only George Romero's Night Of The Living Dead did ten years earlier. Showcasing a deranged killer by the name of Michael Myers who in childhood murdered his sister in cold blood on Halloween night, only to escape his asylum to return to his Illinois home to hunt down babysitter (and eventually known little sister) Jamie Lee Curtis 15 years later, was truly an amazing film that never exploited the genre, keeping the imagination and terror flowing within the viewers mind rather than blatantly on the screen. For it's time it was the number one profitable independent film ever made, and after...
A Great, Scary, Classic Made Even Better!
This new, Extended version of Halloween is something no fan should be without! 12 minutes of additional footage (4 scenes) has been put into the original version, and the result is awesome. These scenes were not deleted. They were really shot in 1980, when the film was released on cut TV. The scenes were shot using the cast and crew of Halloween II (another must see!) and directed by John Carpenter, himself. These scenes include:
#1 A very well made scene where Dr. Loomis (Doneld Pleasance) has an intense conversation with two sanitarium officials. He begs that they move Myers to a maximum security ward, saying that the boy is dangerous and has an instinctive forsce within him. The officials are unimpressed by what Loomis says, and simply keep Myers in the minimum security ward.
#2 A scene directly following the previous added scene. Loomis walks into young Michael's cell. For about 1 minute he simply stares at the boy, who stares out the window. Loomis then says...
This review pertains to the 35th anniversary blu-ray.
Anchor Bay has re-released John Carpenter's 1978 masterpiece "Halloween" about as many times as they have the Evil Dead trilogy. It's been almost impossible to know which one to pick up over the years there are so many versions. Halloween was originally released on DVD by Anchor Bay featuring a bad transfer that didn't do the film any justice at all. They then re-released it again on DVD with a transfer approved by the original director of photography Dean Cundey. The transfer was greatly improved but it was lacking in extras for a film of such great importance. Then they released another cut of the film in which the extra scenes filmed for the TV airings of the film (filmed during the making of the sequel oddly enough) were cut into the film. A 4th DVD release then occured as part of their "divimax" line which was a 2 disc set with plentiful extras and a brand new remastered transfer.

That 4th DVD release proved to be the most problematic. While the quality of detail was...
